COMMON THEMES - Tomfooleries

Once the ceremony is over, the stage is open for the entrance of the clowns. These are most often an assortment of caricature peasant paupers and burlesque village characters, such as drunks, old hags and beggars, mixed with non-descript “blacks” or gypsies, doctors & nurses, zombies, monsters. Hobby horses, camel and bears are often seen at this stage.
